Have you ever wondered what the difference between gold foiling printing and gold digital printing is? It is a question that is often asked. Based on this question, the next question that usually follows is why the costs are usually higher when it comes to gold foiling as opposed to gold digital printing. In this article, the main difference between the two are explained as well as the different applications they can be used on.
Below you can see an example of an Indian wedding card that has been foiled and one that has been digitally printed. The content on both sides of the wedding card is identical.
From the offset, it can be seen that the print on the left side has a beautiful shine to it. As the card is held and moved when in your hands, the foil can be seen on the entire content of the left side of the card. Looking at it from different angles and different lighting perspectives, the gold looks different. It definitely has a luxurious look to it.
The card on the right side has been digitally printed. Generally speaking with digital printing, no matter what angle you look at it, it appears the same. It is often referred to as a ‘flat gold’ print and does not have any of the shine of the gold foil print. The digitally printed gold is usually made up of a combination on CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key/Black).

Using CardFusions library of images and symbols,
As well as this, we offer a print only service, which allows our customers to design their own invites (or get their invites designed by family or friends) and we print for them. Wedding Seating Charts
Wedding seating charts provide your guests with the information they need to know. The seating chart works in conjunction with our table name / table numbers and with our place cards. We offer a range of A3 gold foiled and rose gold foiled wedding seating charts.
Place Cards
The place cards are usually placed at where your individual guests will be seated, usually at their location on the table. They work really well with the wedding seating chart and the table name / table numbers. Having foiled (whether gold foiled or rose gold foiled) place cards gives a really luxurious look and feel and makes the overall impression of your event feel grand.
Thank You Cards
Once your events have all concluded, customers often want to thank all those that participated in making their events beautiful. Thank you cards are used to show their appreciation. They are not only sent to the guests that attended, but also to suppliers who contributed to their events. The thank you cards also look amazing when foiled.
Wall Art
Gold foiled wall arts look absolutely stunning. There are a diverse number of wall arts categories that can be foiled. These range from religious prints to kitchen wall to motivational quote prints and everything in between.
Limitations of Gold foil printing
One limitation that you would have with gold foil printing in comparison with digital gold printing is not being to have any transparent / watermarked text or images. At CardFusion, we often use watermarks as images in the back of cards. Please see the example below. With gold foiling, this is not possible as the foil is known as a block.
In conclusion, gold foiling adds a level of luxury to any card, not to mention that it looks absolutely stunning. Be sure to have a look at our range of Wall Art and Invitation cards. Both can be customised and foiled according to your requirements.
At CardFusion, we do all of our foiling in-house. As well as gold foiling, we also offer rose gold foiling and holographic foiling.
